How to Remember Everything
Do you often forget new English words? Do you forget where you put your keys? You are not alone! Everyone forgets things. The good news is that your brain is like a muscle. You can train it to remember more.
Here are five easy tips to improve your memory and help you learn English faster!
1. Pay Attention First
You cannot remember something if you do not focus on it. When you learn a new word, put away your phone and turn off the TV. Look at the word and listen to how it sounds. Give your brain time to take in the new information.
Key Rule: Give your full attention to one thing at a time. Multitasking makes it hard to remember!
2. Review and Repeat
Do not just look at a new English word once. Read it again tomorrow. Then, read it again next week.
Day 1: Learn the word.
Day 2: Review the word.
Day 7: Review it again.
This is called spaced repetition. It tells your brain, "This information is important! Do not throw it away!"
3. Make Connections
It is easier to remember new things if you connect them to things you already know. If you learn the word "huge" (which means very big), do not just memorize the letters. Think of a huge elephant or a huge building in your city. The connection makes the memory much stronger.
4. Use Pictures in Your Mind
Our brains love pictures. When you learn a new fact or word, try to draw a picture of it in your head.
For example, if you need to go to the store to buy apples, milk, and bread, imagine a giant apple drinking milk while eating a piece of bread! It sounds silly, but silly pictures are very easy to remember.
5. Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is magic for your brain. While you are sleeping, your brain is busy. It moves information from your short-term memory to your long-term memory. If you are tired, learning is much harder. Try to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night so your brain is ready to learn.
